Traditional Text

    Tangled

This book is a remake of the original book Rapunzel. It is a good princess book, but children have to be a little older for it to hold their attention. Boys might also like the book because as you know in Rapunzel a handsome knight climbs up the princess's beautiful long hair.

The Ugly Duckling

This is a good book to read to children because it will give students something to relate bullying too. It allows students to understand that it is okay to be different from others. Our differences are what make us special. I would read this to a younger group of children just because we want to get this message across to students' before they have a chance to start bullying other children.

The Three Pigs

This books as amazing illustrations and adds a twist to the original story of the three little pigs. I would recommend reading this to an older group of students because it could be analyzed and interrupted differently by each student. David Wiesner tells the story using dialogue balloons and text excerpts from the three little pigs.

  1. This version of the Three Pigs is a great example of the postmodern picture book that we are going to discuss in class next week. This Disney version of Tangled is an example of what one might call a Grocery Store book since it is connected to merchandise. I just saw the movie this summer and really liked the new update.

  2. I love this version of the Three Pigs! David Wiesner is a great author and illustrator, plus this story is just a classic. His version is a lot of fun, but I do agree when you said it could be used in a classroom with older aged students.
