This book is about a dentist named Doctor De Soto, who also happens to be a mouse.He checks the teeth of many animals small and large. This book could help parents if their child is afraid of the dentist because it shows that when you go to the dentist nothing bad happens. He usually refuses to treat "dangerous" animals, but one day a fox shows up. Will Doctor De Soto treat him?

Both Van Allsburg and Steig are known for their fantasy. I love Van Allsburg's picture books--the illustrations are always beautiful and interesting and the stories are usually mysterious and provocative. Great choices!

ReplyDeleteI agree that Dr. De Soto seems like a great book to help children overcome their fear of the dentist. Especially if they don't understand what they do or that most check ups won't hurt!
