Targeted Genre: Board Books

Board Book Blog #1

The Snowy Day

This is a story about an African American boy who wakes up and notices that it is snowing outside. So he decides that he wants to go outside to play with the snow. He ventures out into the cold air and goes on adventures through his snow covered town.

By: Ezra Jack Keats
Publisher: The Viking Press 1962 by the Penguin Group
ISBN # 0-670-86733-0
Evaluation: I would recommend this book for children. It was the first children's book with an African American child in it. Therefore, it has historical value as well.

My Very First Book of Numbers

This is a good board book for teaching children their numbers. Eric Carle has some of the best drawling! Children can count the number of pieces of fruit at the bottom of the page that matches the written number at the top of the page.

By: Eric Carle
Publisher: Philomel Books
ISBN # 978-0399245091
Evaluation: I would recommend this book because of the illustrations. The pictures are done in bright colors and they go with the number theme of the book.

Slide and Find Trucks: What Truck is that?

This is a great interactive book for children that allows them to slide a box to uncover the a truck. It has all different construction vehicles and big rig trucks for children to discover.

By: Roger Piriddy
Publisher: Priddy Books (January 23, 2007)
ISBN # 9780312499099
Evaluation: I would recommend the book because it is fun and interactive for children. The boxes to uncover the hidden trucks can be a little hard to move, but it can help with fine motor skills.

  3. I like the nice, clean format you have for your blog. It is easy to read and the books are nicely separated from one another while at the same time grouped by genre. The Eric Carle book looks like a great beginning informational text for number sense and math.
